The Hacettepe University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics began its education and research activities in 1962 under the name “Dietetics.” It is the first and a leading institution in Türkiye to provide university-level education for dietitians. 7. What does the Nutrition and Dietetics bachelor's programme include?
The first stage of the programme includes education in basic sciences, medical sciences and nutritional sciences that form the foundation of dietetic practice. In the later stages, courses and practical training focus on developing professional knowledge and skills. In addition to theoretical and laboratory education, students gain experience in different areas of dietetic practice through professional placements in Community Health, Paediatric Diseases, Adult Diseases and Food Service Systems.
8. In which fields can graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics work?
Graduates may work in inpatient healthcare institutions, child and elderly care institutions, maternal and child health and community health services, private diet clinics and institutional food service settings. They may also work as managers, researchers or educators in public and private organisations related to food and nutrition. Graduates may continue their postgraduate education through master's and doctoral programmes, participate in research and education activities, and pursue an academic career. The Department also offers master's and doctoral programmes.

Students in the bachelor's programme in Nutrition and Dietetics complete compulsory professional practice courses in their fourth year. Professional Practice in Clinical Nutrition–Paediatrics, Professional Practice in Clinical Nutrition–Adult, Professional Practice in Food Service Systems, and Professional Practice in Community Nutrition each comprise 224 hours, while Professional Practice in the Field of Nutrition and Dietetics comprises 280 hours. The total duration of professional practice is 1,176 hours. Professional practice is organised based on the standards of the National Core Curriculum in Nutrition and Dietetics (BDB-UCEP) and the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD).
