Report Prepared by Prof. Dr. Derya Dikmen Published by WHO

The report "USE OF NUTRIENT PROFILE MODELS FOR NUTRITION AND HEALTH POLICIES", prepared with contributions from our faculty member Prof. Dr. Derya Dikmen, has been published by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe.

The WHO Regional Office for Europe developed a nutrient profile model in 2015 to restrict the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages to children. In 2019, a draft nutrient profile model was introduced to address the inappropriate marketing of complementary foods for infants and young children. Nutrient profiling is defined as the science of classifying or ranking foods based on their nutrient composition for disease prevention and health promotion.

This newly published report summarizes an expert meeting organized in September 2021 by the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases. The report proposes revisions to the regional nutrient profile model, including restricting unhealthy food marketing, finalizing the infant formula model, exploring the use of nutrient profile models for front-of-pack labeling, and assessing their application in health taxation for nutritious and sustainable diets.

This significant achievement reflects our professor’s academic success and contributions to the scientific community. We congratulate her and wish her continued success.
